Greg Palast, a journalist working in America uncovers abuses in government and big business for the BBC's Newsnight program and for Britain's left - leaning Guardian and observer news-papers. Palast states that many of these stories could not be done in the American media due to the problem of self - censorship on the part of journalists in the main - stream media.

Progressives are more organized and numerous than they have been since the 1960s, but the 2004 elections were a crushing defeat for them. The voter turnout among right-wing Christians very huge, which gave George W. Bush a decisive reelection margin of 3.5 million votes, and the Republicans increased their majorities in both houses of Congress by four seats.
