Elite settlements and the taming of politics
Article Abstract:
Elite settlements, sudden, deliberate and lasting compromises of core disputes among political elites, to a significant degree are accidents of history with no clear structural or cultural patterns to separate the settlement, politically tamed, nations from those without settlements. The very substantial consequences of the accidents emphasize how central contingent elite choices are in political change. In England, 1688, Sweden, 1808, Poland, 1988, Costa Rica, 1948, Columbia and Venezuela, 1956/1957 and Uruguay in 1948, it can be seen that settlement is dependent to a great degree upon having an authoritarian regime, either military or civilian.

Teaching morality in a plural society
Article Abstract:
Many people believe teachers should communicate society's moral values to students. Many writers in education opposed teachers' willingness to abdicate responsibility for moral education, arguing that the concept of a teacher's role includes responsibility to teach moral values. They believe those who refuse to undertake the this task are supporters of moral relativism.
