Heterogeneity of preferences for local public goods: the case of private expenditure on public education
Article Abstract:
A research study used revealed preference methods to estimate the extent of heterogeneity in local public good preferences. This is accomplished by testing the hypothesis that claims a correlation between demographic characteristics and public education expenditure preferences. A goodness-of-fit index on a wasted consumer expenditure estimation is used as basis for the test. The test statistic distribution is estimated via bootstrap methods. Results show a widespread preference heterogeneity.

Short-term and long-term government debt and nonresident interest withholding taxes
Article Abstract:
The proceeds on national Treasury-bills and on 5-year government bonds completely indicate the nonresident interest withholding taxes set on American or Japanese investors. Thus, this implies that nonresident interest withholding taxes on short-term and long-term government debt are not due to international investors. Still, nonresident withholding taxes boost pretax interest rates.
