The development of more advanced closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance control functions is being driven by the continued push for integrated access control. Anaheim, CA-based Hyyr offers enhanced CCTV control with its newly introduced Version 2.4 of the AXxess 202 Security Management System software, which delivers pan/tilt/zoom functions for camera control as well as an improved search and recall feature. Secaucus, NY-based Panasonic Security and Digital Imaging Co has rolled out the WJ- MP204 Camera Control equipment, which when used in tandem with the company's WV-CU350A System Controller delivers a variety of multiple camera capabilities.

Watkins Security Inc., a security company based in Baltimore, MD, has turned to C-Phone - Video Communication Systems to provide its closed-circuit television system with remote video transmission capability. By installing C-Phone's AV-324 system, Watkins Security has been able to watch over the premises of a client from its headquarters and the homes of senior management. The system can access remote sites either through a phone line or over ISDN digital lines.

Magnetic card technology is the most cost-effective security technology, according to Bob McKee, vice president of Business Development for Proprietary Controls Systems Corp. of Los Angeles, CA. A magnetic card costs only around 25 cents, compared with an average of about $4 for a proximity card. Moreover, magnetic card readers can be used either as a stand-alone system or part of an online system.
