Occupational hazards: Why military occupations succeed or fail

Article Abstract:

The different goals of military occupation with objectives other than nation building are recognized. The data set of twenty-four military occupations since the Napoleonic Wars are examined for the causes of occupation success and failure and the factors responsible for the success of military occupations are discussed.

Societal complexity and diminishing returns in security

Article Abstract:

Security is becoming an area of diminishing returns to complexity for today's advanced societies. The advanced societies shock absorbing capacity is less and the possible ways to cope with the problem such as judicious development and range of new technologies are discussed.
