Labor seeks to rebuild its house - and Newt's

Article Abstract:

The wages issue and the harnessing of $35 million of their finances toward the toppling of Republicans for control of Congress are among the main objectives of the reorganized AFL-CIO headed by John Sweeney. Republicans have been unresponsive to labor's causes such as health care reform and continued funding for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security benefits. The AFL-CIO has a multiethnic staff that is truly representative of America.
