Life without a casino
Article Abstract:
Californiana tribes who chose not to open casinos often find it difficult to obtain investment funding for other types of business enterprise. A number of tribes have chosen not to become involved in casinos due to the risk the operations will be affected due to political interference whilst other tribes are situated in poor locations for casinos. Some tribes are concerned about bringing gambling onto the reservations. They are undertaking other types of business, such as bottling plants. The uncertain legal situation of a tribe often makes companies cautious about moving onto a reservation.

He's back!
Article Abstract:
Former Governor Jerry Brown has won the mayoralty race over 10 other opponents in Oakland, CA. He practically ran away with the elections taking 59% of the vote while his closest rival, Ed Blakely, got only 15%. Right after the election, observers have been airing their skepticism over his reason for becoming politically active again after 20 years without an elected office. Others cited political positioning for the presidential race in the year 2000. He has already run three times in the presidential and twice for the US senatorial race.

Life without phones?
Article Abstract:
More than 100,000 Californians live in rural areas of the state that are not served by a regular telephone service. Because most of those people live in remote parts of northern California, telephone companies find it physically and economically difficult to install the relevant equipment, and residents must rely on CB-type radio telephones or intermittent cell phone signals.
