Macro ethics and micro ethics: the case of health care
Article Abstract:
Ethics is a major concern in the health care field. Health care professionals must ensure that they are benefitting patients and meeting ethical and moral guidelines in the provision of care. There are two types of ethical issues facing the health care community: micro issues and macro issues. Micro issues cover issues that arise on a daily basis, and they involve such factors as technological change and dealing with a diverse population. Macro issues concern the allocation, use, and management of health care resources. Macro issues are of major importance as the amount of resources being consumed by health care continues to rise.

Ethics and the environment: beyond self-interest
Article Abstract:
North America has been slow in developing an ethical orientation toward dealing with, and thus protecting, the environment. The upsurge in interest in the environment is a consequence of enlightened self-interest. People are understanding that the destruction of the environment is having dangerous consequences on humanity. Enlightened self-interest has proven to be the impetus for the rise of the concept of sustainable development. Sustainable development limits the exploitation of the environment without seriously restricting the flexibility of subsequent generations.

The author focuses on the disjunction between the processes used by states to deal with environmental issues and the emotional salience of these issues for the mass public.
