More than a market? The regulation of sport in the European Union

Article Abstract:

The notion that sport is much more than a mere economic activity, an industry or a market, has guided and limited the Eueopean Union's (EU's) involvement in the regulation of sport. EU's limited involvement in regulating sport has happened not only because such an idea is embedded in the traditional regulation of sport in Europe, but also because it had powerful carriers who were forced to forge an uneasy compromise with the promoters of change - a relationship between ideas and agency.

Consensus and parliamentary opposition: The case of Spain

Article Abstract:

The study of the opposition in a democratic parliament of Spain and the incentives faced by the main opposition party when voting on laws in the Spanish parliament is presented. It shows that for laws dealing with basic rights, one should find a lower degree of consensus than for laws dealing with regulative issues such as legal and institutional rule, which includes international treaties and international organizations.

A study provides a suite of analytical tools with which the problem of understanding and predicting water resource allocation and management and related policy-making processes could be addressed. Five water management paradigms are identified for the water-scarce economies of the semi-arid industrialized North.
