Opposition in Japan

Article Abstract:

Political opposition in Japan is found in the parliament, the press and the factions of political parties, especially those within the predominant Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Opposition since 1992 has centered on the issues of Japan's declining economic competitiveness and widespread domestic political corruption. The Japanese economy needs to be drastically deregulated to foster its competitiveness in global markets. Through a recent series of LDP and coalition governments, the Japanese are reforming their political system to curb corruption and prepare the way for the massive deregulation required.
