Running for office? Need media attention? Change your name to Zsa Zsa
Article Abstract:
The media coverage of the California election campaign reflected the difficult choice between providing relevant news or news that would sell newspapers. A monitor of the Orange County Register from Sep 3 to Nov 6, 1992 showed that Zsa Zsa Gabor had more media mileage than important election issues. The governor's race was the most covered issue although there were fewer stories on the six constitutional officers included in the party ticket. Incumbents and challengers received equal coverage but the news quality was inadequate. The press must pursue its goal of providing the public with first-rate news.

Congress
Article Abstract:
Prospects for many new members representing California to fill Congress in 1993 are high due to reapportionment, new districts, retirements and the decision of many incumbents not to seek re-election. Republicans can now look forward to a reasonable chance of claiming the majority of the state's congressional seats. Only 37 of the state's incumbents are going to run for re-election with only 31 of them expected to have strong chances of winning. Reasons for incumbents' nonreturn to Congress include prospects of a difficult race and the influence of money.
