Education and the California dream

Article Abstract:

The schools of California have managed to keep alive the California dream of higher education. This, however, does not mean a complacency in the attitude towards public schools. Though the schools provide the necessary requisites for achieving the California dream, the students need to put in more efforts as the number of dropouts are increasing. This is not just an individual failure for the student as it is threatening the ability of California to sustain a competitive and healthy economy.

The California dream: often a surreal distortion for Asian Americans

Article Abstract:

Proposition 187, which aims to abolish all federal services and aids meted out to illegal immigrants, only served to segregate ethnic minorities including the Asian minorities from certifiable US citizens. However, Asian Americans of the present generation have become successful in partially overcoming the barriers of employment discrimination and crime and have started enrolling in medicine and law, opened stores and restaurants and are trying for a political role in the society.
