The Sun-Diamond escapade

Article Abstract:

California-based Sun-Diamond Growers has been charged with a number of indictments for its attempt to garner commercial benefits out of the friendship between its chief political operative, Richard Douglas, and the secretary of agriculture, Mike Espy. The San Francisco federal court has charged Douglas not only with giving illegal gifts to Espy, but also for planning a scheme to funnel illegal campaign contributions to Espy's brother. Sun-Diamond's desire for continued access to the federal funds for advertising brand-name products overseas prompted it to keep Espy happy.

Armenian-Americans as political players

Article Abstract:

Although the Armenian-American population numbers around only one million, the minority group seems to wield disproportionate amounts of political influence. Motivated by memories of bloody purges and diaspora in their homeland, Armenian-Americans have lobbied successfully for major US foreign aid to Armenia, and international recognition of the "Armenian Genocide."
