Tom Bradley

Article Abstract:

The increase of Latin Americans in Los Angeles, CA, signals the end of the electoral clout and power of African Americans in local politics. The first and, as predicted, the last African American to be elected Los Angeles mayor, Tom Bradley has initiated some developments that caught the attention of the rest of the world. These include a more mature skyline, a bustling port and international airport, a thriving financial district and a city work force that is more representative of Los Angeles'diverse populace. In Sep 1998, Los Angeles hit the headlines again with news of Bradley's death.

Article Abstract:

Former police chief Frank Jordan defeated incumbent Art Agnos in the Nov 7, 1991 mayoralty election of San Francisco, CA. Mayor Jordan's triumph could be attributed to an effective campaign strategy that emphasized his commitment to community service and the ineptness of Agnos' administration. California residents are expecting Jordan to start his crusade soon against homelessness, drug abuse and AIDS which are prevalent in the city.
