A multicultural perspective of cardiovascular disease
Article Abstract:
The growing ethnic diversity of the US due to immigration has raised demands for culturally sensitive medical care. None of the ethnic groups seems immune to cardiovascular disease. Variations in cultural beliefs about health and disease might have a beneficial or an adverse reaction on Western treatment plans. It is, therefore, important for medical personnel to openly discuss cultural belief systems with patients and to evaluate the possible impact of these on a patients's treatment plan. Non-Western health practices may improve the patient's quality of life.

Cardiovascular risk factors in homeless adults
Article Abstract:
Lack of funds in the homeless population presents a problem for them in obtaining medical care. The scarcity of primary health care facilities for this population and the insensitive attitude of many caregivers are other problems. Alcoholism and smoking are risk factors for cardiovascular disease particularly prevalent in this population and successful medical care involves setting realistic and achievable aims and working with the patients to modify their lifestyles within the constraints of homelessness.
