Article Abstract:

Many employers are beginning to use performance data to make purchasing decisions about health care plans. Several national organizations are promoting the use of these measures, including the Foundation of Accountability and Employers Managed Health Care Organization. Data-driven accountability focuses on long-term performance-based information, such as change in the relative onset of breast cancer, rather than quantitative data.

Clifton Gaus: administrator of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research

Article Abstract:

Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) administrator Clifton Gaus cited pressure to balance the budget and the loss of key supporters in Congress as reasons why the agency's funding might be cut or eliminated. He said that AHCPR's role in healthcare cost-effectiveness research justifies a reasonable amount of funding for the agency. Gaus also commented on the agency's activities and its future.

California's doing more than dreaming

Article Abstract:

Healthcare providers have banded together in California to establish a statewide health information network that is expected to yield tremendous cost savings from sharing data. The healthcare system in California could experience a cost benefit from using such a health information network amounting to $2 billion to $3 billion, according to a study by Deloitte & Touche.
