Antimicrobial resistance: implications for the clinician
Article Abstract:
Several strategies may be effective in reducing the increased resistance to conventional antibiotic treatment seen among patients in critical care settings. Health care workers in these settings should use antibiotics according to accepted guidelines, continually monitor patients for resistance, routinely wash their hands, and isolate at-risk patients. Educational and research efforts aimed at improving antibiotic use and development should be encouraged.

Hospital-acquired pneumonia and its management
Article Abstract:
The development of hospital-acquired pneumonia and suggested strategies for identifying, preventing and treating this condition are presented. Several patient factors can help narrow the list of possible bacteria and better tailor immediate treatment until laboratory tests confirm the exact organism. Most infected patients treated with appropriate medications survive.
