Berwick: TQM backlash prompts questions
Article Abstract:
Some hospital CEOs are claiming that total quality management (TQM) is not meeting expectations, but TQM expert Donald Berwick believes that TQM remains a strong force for positive system reform. Berwick asserts that some criticism is aimed at methods that are not actually part of TQM theory. Berwick also notes that TQM methods cannot flourish in organizations comprised of individuals who are not interested in TQM or who lack basic management skills.
