Data rich, information poor

Article Abstract:

A study by Lawson Software and Arthur Andersen of 200 health care executives revealed that about 33% of these executives felt certain about their cost data. The survey also found that about 36% of executives polled believed that they could not determine if managed care contracts would be profitable given the variable nature of health care costs. Many consultants and software companies offer cost accounting systems, which can range in cost from about $30,000 to over $100,000.

Defeating inflation

Article Abstract:

Inflation in the healthcare industry is not as critical as many had expected. While many in the industry fear that the days of savings are over and that premiums costs will have to be raised dramatically, others believe that the low levels of healthcare inflation can be maintained. They note that offsetting trends will cushion inflationary pressures.
