The clinical experience of continuous quality improvement in the neonatal intensive care unit
Article Abstract:
Continuous quality improvement processes were applied to reduce central line infection rates in a neonatal intensive care unit. Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, revised central intravenous line placement and management practices to reduce infections in low-birthweight infants. The improvements in the first eight months substantially reduced the rate of catheter-related complications.
