Does improving geographic access to VA primary care services impact patient's patterns of utilization and costs?

Article Abstract:

A study analyzing the effectiveness of community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) established by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for improving the veterans' access to and use of primary care services while reducing the need for costly specialty outpatient and inpatient cares is presented. It was observed that notwithstanding the improvement in access, the pattern of health care usage and the costs remained the same.

The effect of a closed formulary on prescription drug use and costs

Article Abstract:

A comparison between the effects of a closed formulary and a an open formulary on costs and use of prescription drugs is offered. Additional information on a regression model analyzing drug utilization and medication expenditures is also included.
