Effects of parathyroid hormone on cytosolic free calcium concentration in individual rabbit connecting tubules
Article Abstract:
Parathyroid hormone (PTH) stimulates calcium reabsorption in rabbit kidney. A specific chemical is suspected in the mechanism of calcium reabsorption. This study examined whether the calcium which is mobilized by PTH was contained within the kidney cells or within the connecting tubule of the kidney. The authors conclude that PTH increases the amount of calcium within the collecting ducts of the kidney, and that this effect depends on calcium contained within tubular and bath luminal fluids.

Inhibition of gastrin gene expression by somatostatin
Article Abstract:
Prior studies have demonstrated that in the stomach cells containing somatostatin (a compound causing divers physiologic reactions) are near cells containing gastrin (a hormone that causes the release of gastric acid and promotes digestion of food.) It has also been shown that somatostatin regulates the release of gastrin. The current study indicates that although gastrin is released under somatostatin stimulation, somatostatin causes a decrease in the production of gastrin.

Basolateral membrane Na+/H+ antiport, Na+/Base Cotransport, and Nat-independent Cl-/Base exchange in the rabbit S3 proximal tubule
Article Abstract:
The article deals with the mechanism of sodium ion and chloride ion transport in specific areas of the kidney. In this experiment dissected and isolated areas of rabbit kidney were used to study the mechanisms of transport. The study suggests that the mechanism of ion transport in the base and side membrane of the individual isolated cells differs from other areas of kidney.
