Fit to be tried; despite some notable failures, integrated care is still the best for cutting costs, not quality

Article Abstract:

Healthcare industry executives who get trapped by misplaced loyalties to tradition and outdated thinking often pay dearly when they attempt to implement integrated delivery systems at their establishments. While integrated delivery underpins the strategies of many health systems, it is not enough to create an integrated system only in form. Among other things, a well-designed integrated system must must add value by fostering the ability of the systems to provide quality service at lower costs.

Health system CEOs are an essential component of the success of decentralized management in the health care industry. Several health care agencies are experiencing operational problems and decreased strategic advantages as a result of the CEO's diminishing leadership duties and responsibilities. The CEO's primary responsibilities include maintaining the organization's management, vision and agenda.

Less trouble in paradise: an American millionaire gives Fiji health care a shot in the arm

Article Abstract:

San Francisco millionaire Richard Evanson has established a system of health care clinics on Fiji's Yasawa islands. While living in Fiji, Evanson noted the poor conditions and unavailability of health care, and accepted the offer of an eye surgeon to donate services and treatment. Since that agreement, other clinics that have been set up include dental and general health.
