From chaos to order: health care quality in context

Article Abstract:

The problems affecting the US health care system were related to the scientific field called chaos theory. Chaos theory was defined as the study of finding order in systems that seem to be chaotic. The theory posits that orderly systems do exist, but that they are extremely complicated and not easily discerned. Some of the chaotic conditions of the healthcare industry were attributed to discontinuous change in finances, technology and structure and contradictions between the availability of quality care and affordability.

Article Abstract:

Holistic healthcare is a trend that will continue to be important and prevalent in the healthcare industry that administrators must plan for appropriate measures. Holistic health is driven by consumer demand and will eventually lead to more physicians incorporating the concept into their medical models and an increase in third party reimbursement. Healthcare administrators must be proactive and knowledgeable in holistic healthcare if they are to be effective in future healthcare settings.

Self-directed work teams: the wave of the future?

Article Abstract:

Health care organizations hav found that the use of the self-directed healthcare work team approach is effective in maximizing the current and potential capabilities of employees. The transition from a paternalistic system to a self-directed team system, however, is hampered by traditional management teaching and practices that build barriers to team formation.
