Health care: a leader or a follower? Reducing disposable waste
Article Abstract:
Health care institutions should institute measures to minimize the amount of waste they are creating. Although most hospitals use disposable materials due to the safety and convenience they provide, many institutions would benefit by using reusable products that give comparable advantages. Using reusable materials in certain settings will greatly reduce hospital waste and lower waste disposal expenses. To prevent waste accumulation, the healthcare industry should assume responsibility for medical wastes and formulate laws and guidelines for their reduction and proper disposal.
