Discovery of new materials and new applications for known materials have spurred the development of medical devices.

Number of hospital facilities decreases as utilization increases

Article Abstract:

The financially stable hospital chains have purchased struggling tax-exempt hospitals and large chains have closed hospitals resulting in a steady decline in the number of US hospitals. As the total number of hospitals has declined, capacity utilization such as total beds occupied has risen.
