Article Abstract:

There are 14 states in the US that have passed new laws about hospital conversions and 11 states have passed laws that evaluate the effects of the hospital conversion on its community. California is one of the states that passed a law that evaluates community needs and hospital conversions. The review of the Queen of Angels/Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center sale to Tenet Healthcare was conducted by California's Attorney General.

Triage for trouble spots: hospitals partner to bring peace to the streets of San Francisco

Article Abstract:

All of San Francisco's hospitals, several community groups, and managed-care giant Kaiser Permanente have joined an citywide antiviolence project started by the University of California, San Francisco-Mount Zion Medical Center. Social programs such as children's mental health services and parenting workshops have helped Mount Zion fight violence in the Western Addition neighborhood.
