Managed care
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted by KPMG Peat Marwick indicates that health insurance premiums registered an increase of only 3.3% in 1998. Even amid the proposition that prescription drug prices may be stimulating health cost inflation, the result of the latest survey involving 1,600 US employees, represents the fourth consecutive year that premiums have risen by less than the average increase in workesr' earnings, which was quoted at 3.7% in 1998. The survey also reveals that some employers are eliminating preexisting condition clauses on account of provisions in the 1996 insurance portability law, which restricts the number of employees whose care can be put on hold for such justifications.
