Mercy or murder?
Article Abstract:
Opponents of the Oregon Death with Dignity Act, approved by voters in the Nov 1994 election, have delayed its beginning by filing a suit against it. The law would allow Oregon residents with no more than six months to live to make three requests for lethal injection from their physician, after the diagnosis and prognosis are verified. However, the patient is not required to notify their families, and an "Oregon resident" is only vaguely defined. Opponents believe that the Act cheapens life and the medical profession by approving of suicide.

Bitter ends in Oregon? When coverage is limited, hospice care may not be an alternative
Article Abstract:
Now that assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, many are worried that the terminally ill will be the most dramatically impacted. The fear is that some healthcare providers will be tempted to hasten the death of the terminally ill more as a means of saving money, than it being the appropriate and compassionate thing to do.
