Article Abstract:

Aesop 2000 or the Automated Endoscopic System for Optimal Positioning, is a medical robot which assists surgeons during laparoscopic surgery. The system is undergoing testing at San Ramon, CA's Regional Medical Center, by Dr. Carlos Garcia. The robot understands and responds to Garcia's voice by performing mundane tasks, such as holding the light, scope or camera during surgery. Aesop 2000 was developed by Santa Barbara, CA-based Computer Motion Co.

Article Abstract:

Most legislators lack familiarity with healthcare issues, but they vote on laws that control hospitals. Consequently a group of New Jersey legislators visited the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, in summer 1996. The hospital's professional staff shared information on issues including health insurance and methods of handling uncompensated treatment of the poor.

Making hospitals more hospitable

Article Abstract:

New York Hospital has implemented programs to improve customer service and satisfaction. Employees are trained to provide good customer service through a mentoring program with the nearby Pierre Hotel. Also, prospective employees are asked how they would handle difficult or hard to understand patients.
