Outlook for EMS guarded but favorable

Article Abstract:

The closing of the Department of Health and Human Services, Emergency Medical Services Division marks what legislators hope will be the beginning of state support for emergency medical services. The future of emergency service systems now depends on whether adequate funding can be obtained from state and local sources. Various states have different approaches and concepts toward the funding of emergency services. States are showing an interest in maintaining a trauma care network.

Energy management: conservation stands at a crossroads

Hospitals energy conservation programs stand between high costs of energy and the often costly conservation projects. The Miami Valley Hospital has initiated a successful program which has proved to be cost effective in their management of energy.

Hospitals are carrying out joint ventures with mergers of their order of goods and supplies. They are realizing savings from these shared services. Hospital group purchasing is continuing to be a cost effective tool for hospitals.
