Predicting appointment breaking
Article Abstract:
Hospital referral services, while increasing physicians' clientele base, also contribute to the problem of cancelled appointments. There are two reasons: lack of initial contact between doctor and patient and the tendency of referral services as profit-making institutions in their own right to schedule appointments prematurely. Solutions include shorter appointment lead times, appointment reminders and adjusting physician schedules to accommodate potential no-shows.

Decreasing anxiety: to satisfy outpatients, hospitals need to identify stress points in their procedures
Article Abstract:
A study of outpatient perceptions of medical care, one of the few conducted to date, demonstrated that anxiety is the predominant feeling among outpatients. It also identified nine major stress stages, beginning with the news that they require diagnostic treatment and progressing through the anxious waiting period that follows completion of tests. Hospitals are advised to conduct 'anxiety audits' of their own to allay patient concerns.
