Risk adjustment: where are we now?

Article Abstract:

Risk adjustment is essential in minimizing the selection of patients, or enrollees in health plans. Selection has become an important issue in the new world of competing, at-risk health plans and disappearing indemnity plans. Limiting services, to an extent that consumers are not informed, may also be an issue in the new world. Partial capitation may solve these problems, since it decreases financial incentives to select and provides some benefits for offering additional services.
