Satisfaction with nursing homes: the design of employees' jobs can ultimately influence family members' perceptions
Article Abstract:
Study results indicate that two job-design characteristics, 'task identity' and 'autonomy,' and a role-relations characteristic, 'role conflict,' impact nursing home employees' commitment to their organizations. Low commitment, the results also indicate, translates into lower satisfaction among residents' family members. High role conflict and low autonomy and task identity result in lower commitment. The study's results and the implications of those results are discussed.

Marketing prevention to elderly Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in an HMO: the San Diego Medicare Preventive Health Project
Article Abstract:
The San Diego Medicare Preventive Services Demonstration used a comprehensive marketing campaign to enroll Secure Horizons Medicare health maintenance organization (HMO) clients in the project. Only 16.2% of the HMO's eligible members agreed to participate, however. Many of the targeted patients had existing health problems that apparently diverted their attention from the program. Transportation problems may also have inhibited participation.
