The Decision-Making Process for Developing an In-House Microimagery Center
Article Abstract:
Cost consciousness has caused health care facilities to review their operations. Microimagery of medical records is an avenue of cost reduction. If there is a large volume of records to be filmed, then doing it in-house has numerous advantages. It is wise to purchase the highest quality equipment and microfilm medium. Automatic jacket reader-fillers are a good buy. An in-house film processor and microfiche readers are necessary. Total equipment cost would be about $127,000 with an annual expense of $40,000 for supplies. By performing the microfilming in-house, the facility has more control, security and faster retrival than when the service is performed by an outside contractor. Several tables are used for illustrations.
