Medicaid expansions and the crowding out of private health insurance among children

Article Abstract:

Health insurance, the quantity and quality of prenatal care, and infant health

Article Abstract:

Insurance status has been found to be negatively correlated with birth weight, as proven by the 1988 National Maternal and Infant Health Survey. Empirical results suggest that differences in prenatal care utilization are almost insignificant. It was further shown that women listed under the Medicaid plan received relatively less prenatal care compared to those who are covered with private health plans. Such may be attributed to the tendency of Medicaid recipients to undergo prenatal treatment and diagnosis during the latter part of the pregnancy period.
