The effects of enriched prenatal care services on Medicaid birth outcomes in New Jersey
Article Abstract:
The analysis of the HealthStart program, which is involved in the provision of prenatal services in New Jersey to Medicaid-qualified poor pregnant women, shows that benefits in terms of lower hospitalization expenses and higher birthweights only accrued to blacks. The same program did not positively affect white female recipients as much. This finding was based on statistics covering the period 1989-1990.
