The facilitator in participatory action research: les raisons d'etre
Article Abstract:
Participatory action research (PAR) is a collaborative, self-reflective process. The researcher, a facilitator, identifies and illustrates individual concerns, beliefs and values, as do participants. Possibilities for change are considered, with the researcher/facilitator taking a socially and politically significant role within the group, nursing, and society. For researchers involved in PAR, contention exists around the role of the nurse as facilitator and guiding group discussions.

Addressing epistemologic and practical issues in multimethod research: a procedure for conceptual triangulation
Article Abstract:
Conceptual triangulation, research design that brings in multiple points of view, is one approach to multimethod research. It addresses epistemological and practical issues that have challenged investigators to get reliable results. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods is often used in nursing research and practical information about how to conduct such studies is needed. Five steps can be used for conceptual triangulation.

Secondary analysis of qualitative data
Article Abstract:
Secondary analysis of qualitative data gathered for a previous research study is a cost-effective method of clinical inquiry. It decreases respondent burden and is useful as a student research method. This method has limitations when dealing with qualitative data. There is not much information on its use in nursing. This kind of analysis was used for a study of family caregivers of relatives with dementia.
