The urgency of care need and patient satisfaction at a hospital emergency department
Article Abstract:
Patient satisfaction with treatment and care at the emergency room department (ED) of a Swedish hospital was shown to be directly proportional to age and the urgency of the complaint. Despite these findings, out-patient cases still account for a large number of ED consultations. Majority from this group had tried in vain to contact their primary health care provider before turning to the ED. A reevalutation of activities of primary health personnel could benefit this category of younger, non-urgent and less satisfied patients.

Hospital board effectiveness: relationships between board training and hospital financial viability
Article Abstract:
The provision of training to hospital board members enhances decision making and competence. A study of California hospitals indicates that investments in board education and training result in improved financial viability for the hospitals. Selected financial ratios and outcomes are used to measure and analyze the effectiveness of hospital boards. Improved profitability, liquidity and occupancy levels are achieved by hospitals whose governing boards invest in training and education.
