Physician responses to a managed environment: a perceptual paradox
Article Abstract:
Physicians develop negative perceptions regarding the management of health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and the concept of organized practice. However, reported experiences of physicians reveal that such perceptions are actually misconceptions. HMOs and other managed care organizations should promote physician education and dialogue to eliminate physicians' perceptual bias.

Hospital heavies: venture capital bulks up companies that outsource medicine's newest specialty: inpatient-only care
Article Abstract:
Hospitalists, or physicians in charge of inpatient care, are new specialists supported by venturel capital companies. This industry has the potential to reach $5 billion to $10 billion per year and was formalized by the introduction of the word, 'hospitalists' in 1996. The National Assn of Inpatient Physicians claims there are almost 3,000 hospitalists in practice.
