Varicella infection and toxoplasmosis in pregnancy
Article Abstract:
The vaccine for chicken pox and thorough education in how to prevent toxoplasmosis will likely prevent many cases of these two potentially harmful conditions to the fetuses of pregnant women. Health care providers should document a woman's history of chicken pox and review the risks of exposure and options for treatment if needed. Women should also be advised of the risks for toxoplasmosis associated with exposure to cat or sand boxes, uncooked meat, and unwashed produce.

Pregnancy and immunosuppressive drug therapy
Article Abstract:
Pregnant women who have previously had organ transplants may need specialized nursing care. Medications such as azathioprine, prednisone, and cyclosporine A taken to suppress the immune system and prevent organ rejection may have varying effects on the mother and fetus during pregnancy. Nurses should closely monitor these women for signs of infection, drug complications, and stress. Nurses can also be instrumental in educating the woman about potential complications.

The effects of human parvovirus B19 and cytomegalovirus during pregnancy
Article Abstract:
Nurses can play a key role in managing cytomegalovirus (CMV) or human parvovirus B19 in pregnant women, women after childbirth, and infants. Both CMV and human parvovirus B19 can be transmitted to the fetus, causing a wide range of conditions from the insignificant to the extreme. Infected pregnant women should be routinely monitored and educated about their condition and supported in their decisions.
