What organized labor wants
Article Abstract:
Labor unions support the idea of national health insurance administered by the federal government, but some labor leaders consider the possibility of alternatives. For instance, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which helped elect Bill Clinton, favors a system modeled on that of Canada. Separation of health insurance from employment is also favored by groups like the Heritage Foundation, which pushes for individual purchase of coverage. Included are statements concerning the health care reform proposals of several large unions.
