A disproportionate increase in IL-1 beta over IL-1ra in the cervicovaginal secretions of pregnant women with altered vaginal microflora correlates with preterm birth

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the association between vagina microflora, concentrations of interleukin-1 beta and its natural receptor antagonist (IL_1ra) in the cervicovaginal discharge and spontaneous preterm birth. The findings indicate that among women colonized with anaerobic Gram-negative rods, an elevated IL-1 beta concentration, or a diminished IL-1ra:IL-1 beta ratio is associated with preterm delivery.

A fetal response to chorioamnionitis is associated with early survival after preterm birth

Article Abstract:

A study conducted to determine the incidence of histologic chorioamnionitis in a large preterm cohort concludes that histologic chorioamnionitis is inversely related to gestational age. Both histologic chorioamnionitis and a histologic fetal response to chorioamnionitis were observed to be more common in preterm survivors of the neonatal period.

Does fetal fibronectin use in the diagnosis of preterm labor affect physician behavior and health care costs? A randomized trial

Article Abstract:

The impact of the knowledge of fetal fibronectin results on patients treatment and health care costs is examined. Physician behavior or health care costs related to preterm contractions were unaffected by the results of fetal fibronectin.
