A guide on integrating clinical information
Article Abstract:
A new guide for nurse executives on integrating clinical information may assist in making health care delivery decisions. The guide, published by the Center for Healthcare Information Management (CHIM), is designed to help nurse executives integrate medical information so that nurses can spend more time caring for patients in a wholistic manner. Nurse executives should plan to work with an information consultant to create the best solution for their units.

The Nursing Management Minimum Data Set initiative needs you!
Article Abstract:
Participation in the Nursing Management Minimum Data Set (NMMDS) may help perpetuate ongoing research into the nursing decision making process. The NMMDS collects and analyzes nursing data and decisions. These analyses can then provide nursing managers with easily accessible trend patterns on which to base decisions. The data are entered and presented in three categories that include staffing variables, financial variables, and service delivery variables.

Overcoming unrealistic expectations for IS implementation
Article Abstract:
Nurse executives who believe a new information system can be implemented in less than 2 years are setting themselves up for disappointment. The scope of the implementation is vast and may require reeingeering work processes and asking that health care personnel modify their behavior as a result. Time needed for the implementation will have to come from time usually devoted to other job needs.
