Article Abstract:

The role of nurse has undergone drastic change from the traditional view of handling tools to surgeon, wielding swabs and little contact with conscious patients to a field where nurses have increased levels of responsibility along with plenty of patient contact. The surgical department offers nurses variety of opportunities to suit their careers goal and some of them are taking surgical procedures themselves after appropriate training, which gives them increased autonomy and responsibility.

Why good communication skills are important for theatre nurses

Article Abstract:

Effective good communication is essential throughout the perioperative experience to educate patients undergoing surgery, so as to ease their anxiety. Nurses should remember that any minor to major operations, is an anxious time for most patients, so good communication, especially the use of open questioning techniques and active listening with patients and their families, friends can help to address any fears and ease tensions, which in turn helps in postoperative recovery.

The effective management and administration of premedication

Article Abstract:

A brief description is given about drugs used to aid anesthesia and those used as prophylaxis to aid postoperative recovery, and the ways in which premedication can include psychological interventions are considered. Although premedication is no longer routine, it is still useful for some people or procedures to ensure safe anaesthesia and as prophylaxis to aid postoperative recovery.
