A prospective, randomized, controlled trial of high and low maintenance doses of magnesium sulfate for acute tocolysis

Article Abstract:

A high dose of magnesium sulfate can stop premature labor faster than a lower dose, but it also causes more side effects. This was the conclusion of a study of 160 women in premature labor who received 2 grams of magnesium sulfate per hour or 5 grams.

Cervical ripening may cause prolonged labor and make it difficult for doctors to determine approximately when delivery will occur, according to a study of 123 pregnant women. Cervical ripening is a technique to soften the cervix so the baby can pass through.

Pregnancy outcome in women with preterm labor symptoms without cervical change

Article Abstract:

Pregnant women who have symptoms of labor but a non-dilated cervix should be tested for fibronectin in cervical fluid. If they test negative, they probably will not deliver prematurely.
