Prognostic factors in advanced Hodgkin's disease - can they guide therapeutic decisions?
Article Abstract:
Physicians need some way to decide which patients with Hodgkin's disease will need aggressive treatment. Different patients have different characteristics that will determine their prognosis. The nature of the disease also determines the treatment. A 1998 study found seven prognostic factors that might identify patients with a good prognosis who will not need aggressive treatment. These patients could be spared the adverse effects of radiation treatment. However, the researchers could not accurately identify those with a poor prognosis.

Perioperative chemotherapy versus surgery alone for resectable gastroesophageal cancer
Article Abstract:
A study aims to determine whether a regimen of epirubicin, cisplatin, and infused fluorouracil (ECF) given before and after radical surgery improves outcomes among patients with potentially curable gastric cancer. Results indicate that a perioperative regimen of ECF decreased tumor size and stage and significantly improved progression-free and overall survival.
