AMA house - democracy in action

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates is a representation government for physicians that offers each doctor a chance to participate in formulating medical policy. Any physician can be elected a delegate, Delegates draft and vote on policy recommendations, and all AMA members can attend committee hearings. Though no one policy will be endorsed by all medical practitioners, each doctor can have a say in health care planning by means of membership and active involvement in the democratic process.

Embarrassed ophthalmologist sees the light

Article Abstract:

Eric P. Purdy learned not to make a diagnosis before completing the examination when he worked in the Department of Veterans Affairs ophthalmology clinic. He assumed that a patient with Graves' disease could not possibly see well enough to drive. Purdy convinced the patient to surrender his drivers license, only to discover during the examination that the patient's vision had dramatically improved since the last examination.
