AMA house makeup, elections among council report topics

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates will consider reports from six standing AMA councils in its December Interim Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Councils on Amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws, Long Range Planning and Development, Medical Education, Medical Service and, finally, Scientific Affairs, will present reports. The Council on Medical Education will present a joint report with the Council on Medical Service, and a Special Committee on Campaigns and Elections will present a report as well. Thirty-one of the reports are summarized.

No second class care: AMA sets standard of zero tolerance of racial or cultural discrimination in medical treatment

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn's House of Delegates voted to continue not to tolerate racial and cultural discrimination in US health care in Dec 1995. A report by the Board of Trustees found that minorities have less choice in health care locations and greater difficulty in obtaining specialty care than whites. Disparities in health care treatment was also reported. Approximately 50% of minorities are satisfied with their health care while approximately 60% of whites are satisfied.

Medicare, physician pay among board report topics

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates will consider over 20 reports from the AMA Board of Trustees at its December, 1996, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Reports include recommendations for improving physician payment, status of legislation meant to reform the Food and Drug Administration, Medicare carrier instruction problems and AMA efforts to resolve inflexible claim problems. Summaries for 19 of the 21 reports are provided.
