APHA sections find success in fundraising efforts

Article Abstract:

The association's Gerontological Health Section is hosting an annual silent auction and raffle at APHA's Annual Meeting as a better way to involve members in section activities and raise funds to endow many GH sections awards. The fundraising efforts made by the APHA Sections prove to be successful and the emphasis is made to securely endow its newest award for outstanding contribution to minority and rural health.

Family Van staff on front lines of fighting health disparities

Article Abstract:

The Family Van is a mobile laboratory to fight health disparities that is delivering health services to the city's most vulnerable populations for almost 15 years. This van serves all low-areas in Boston where residents bear a disproportionate burden of disease and offers services such as HIV testing, glaucoma testing, prenatal care, oral health, pregnancy testing, and nutrition counseling.

Racial, ethnic disparities in health new focus of bills, attention

Article Abstract:

Policy-makers and health professionals have highlighted the renewed activities and made efforts to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health. The Frist's bill, which includes offering health care access and promotion grants to community health centers and Daschle's proposal that states the option of expanding public insurance eligibility, are discussed.
